GOP Senator Mitch McConnell: Companies Have 1st Amendment Right to Let Employees Die!

This One's a Killer!

Separation of State and Church? Of the People, by the People, for the People? United we Stand?

Are these cornerstones of American Civilization lost - or am I?

Not satisfied with Obama's contraceptive coverage compromise - which allows non-profit organizations to opt out if it interferes with, or tramples upon, their religious beliefs and freedoms - the Republicans, ever true to form - remain dissatisfied and wanting more.

MUCH more!

And, to get it - they're willing that, We, the (little) People - offer up the ultimate sacrifice - our lives - in order to ensure that the first amendment rights of corporations and businesses are not trampled upon!

Heaven forbid!

McConnell, The House Minority Speaker has proudly hitched his healthy ambitions to the sick agenda of Missouri Senator Roy Blunt - who has introduced legislation that will "Ensure that health care stakeholders (companies) retain the right to provide, purchase, or enroll in health coverage that is consistent with their religious beliefs AND moral convictions."

Please re-read that last sentence if the hair on the back of your neck is not standing at attention, or if you did not feel the cold chill of foreboding. Our collective 'spidey senses' should not only be tingling - they should be verging on seizure, which, btw - may, or may not be covered, depending if the cause of said seizure meets with your employers 'religious and moral convictions' du jour!

Best of luck to you. Me. Us!

Cake Looks Good From Here!

Politics Makes for Sick Bedfellows!

Senator Blunt makes no secret of his desire to make it legal to screw the average working joe (you,me,us) out of health coverage. And megalomaniac McConnell is quick to point out that the proposed legislation goes far beyond the right for ANY company - not just religious entities - to deny coverage for contraceptives!

Oh, yes! Happily, it will also allow for the right to deny coverage for diseases such as cervical cancer - as this is often caused by a sexually transmitted disease: HPV. Sexually transmitted diseases are - luckily - both a moral AND a religious no-no - making it morally, religiously, and (here's hoping!) legally okay for the millions afflicted with AIDS (for example) - to simply die.

God Bless America!

You! This Line! You! That Line!

Further - it will allow for the right to refuse coverage for alcoholism and drug addiction - or any diseases derived from such - as these diseases can easily be considered a violation of an employer's high moral standard!

McConnell states - loud and proud - that it is: "The religious freedom for any employer, not just religiously affiliated ones, to be legally allowed to come up with any excuse to exclude any kind of care from the health coverage they provide their employees, as long as they say it's a religious or moral reason."

"To come up with any excuse...". Scared yet?

He even manages to kick it up a notch more by dragging the First Amendment into it - arguing that forcing a company to cover illnesses that are abhorrent to their religious or moral beliefs - is trampling on said sacred rights!

Senator Mitch McConnell
Senator Mitch McConnell

What's Most Frightening is These People Expect to Win Votes!

Did I miss something?

Might I inquire as to what politicians are doing wasting our money arguing such religious and moral issues in the first place? May I ask how they continue to spout such crap from platforms so bloatedly elitist, so blatantly arrogant, and now? So proudly murderous, as well?

Is this upside down, inside out, and ass backwards - or is it just me?

Could someone please advise me as to where the rabbit hole is - cause I want to jump down it also!

I want to believe everything is OK in a world where the people WE hire to work for us - want to strip us first of our dignity - and then of our very lives!

Yes, Mr. Speaker cares!

He cares passionately about companies, corporations, and businesses - and protecting their precious rights!

And we - the loyal employees of said companies, corporations, and businesses?

Apparently - we can just drop dead!

You are spot on. I live in Virginia and they are about to pass a law that says a woman must...yes must have a vaginal ultrasound before having an abortion. Yes, the party that likes small government is now allowing the government in our vaginas. Govenor McDonald(yes a top GOP choice for Vice President) very well may sign it any time now. What is happening?! I think the republican law makers have lost their freaking minds.

Sooner28 Level 6 Commenter 3 months ago

Republicans are trying to take away rights? Go figure! This party is pathetic. McConnell is the one who said his goal was to make Obama a one-term president, and he is also one of the most corrupt members of Congress. Vote the bums out!

If you don't like the insurance coverage offered by your current employer, find a new job or purchase a supplemental policy on your own. I fail to see why this is so difficulty that it needs government intervention. I also fail to understand why I, a male, should assist paying for a woman's abortion through insurance payments, or why a woman should assist me through her insurance premiums in purchasing Viagra - neither makes any sense to me.

A woman's right to choose is being thrown under the bus of the Greed Over People Party (GOP). Mitch McConnell can't talk about jobs so instead he and his party hound dogs go after hot topic issues. What is happening is a regressive movement to strip women of their rights. Now we have the Catholic church, long known for keeping women in their place, interjecting how contemptuous contraception is. Well, where was their contempt in covering up pedophile priests?

Relative to Sen. McConnell, I am of the opinion that he seeks a legal hook to grab on to regards this issue. The First Amendment supplies that mechanism. The COURTS supplied the fictitious rank of "person" to business entities. The purpose was to divest the officers, a/o owner of the company from personal liability in case of corporate failure, ala Kodak, at present. Such a synthesis makes possible the corporate purchasing of materials in such dollar amounts that if such a legal status was not available, an employer the size of GM could not buy it materials to make cars. Personal funds would not permit that.

AS to the main issue, it IS a matter of the founding principles of the institutions involved. Those entities founded by the Catholic Church, were founded upon a set of religious criteria that commands such religious orders go and do that. The Sisters Of Mercy, founded and staffed many hospitals in various communities; for many decades. Some even attained the century mark.

Hence, the issue of birth control is of great bearing, here.

At issue in the main, is whether the GOVERNMENT can require a religious body to accede to its POLITICAL DEMANDS. This IS an ELECTION YEAR, and the offensive is timed for the greatest impact; both as to "firing for effect," and to "test the waters."

From History, we see that the Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, Evangelical Lutheran churches of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden; Church of England, are all government churches. That is the religious hierarchy is approved BY the secular government. It is the NATIONAL governments that make A religious creed the State Religion. Many reasons WHY this course is taken; beyond the purview of this discussion.

But the salient point of government controlled churches is the opposition to government policy voiced by these religious groups. ZERO.

AS to the main focal point, The matter of birth control was never a consideration until the planet had over 4 billion bodies living con-temporaneously. It IS acknowledged that humans are procreating out of CONTROL. At the current level of world population, world resources are becoming less; and harder to find, let alone process into usable form. The NATURAL checks and balance systems have been countered by medical advances.

The point is that the Catholic Church has a belief system that is counter to ARTIFICIALLY reducing human reproduction. At the same time it(birth control) allows adultery, and associated sins to go along as "part of life." It also debases the permissions granted in the State of Matrimony; as the purpose of such a state is the continuance of humanity. Basing my opinion on HISTORY, MAN(collectively) has NOT learned to CONTROL his passions. I would suggest reading this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malthusianism, and this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Malthus, plus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Smith.

Perhaps, Mr. Obama, in his quest for re-election should have by-passed such religious-based organizations(especially those that are key service providers in areas that are economically depressed), and offered to women employees of such corporations the ability to write off the cost of birth control pills from their INCOME TAXES????

Right now, it appears that Mr. Obama is pushing for complete government supremacy in ALL personal matters. Eventually, any government that succeeds at this always ends up appointing the top clergy. This IS a NATURAL fusion of goals by a ruler. The combined EMOTIONAL force exerted has made many nations great. Babylon, Egypt, Greece, Rome, even the Eastern Roman Empire, all had state religions; the E R E even had coterminous status as to Emperor and Religious Head, simultaneously. You can imagine the "PUSH-ME-PULL-YOU" leadership style of the Byzantine Empire.

Further, SCRIPTURE tells us that "Man can NOT serve two masters. He will love one and hate the other, or he will hate one and love the other."

In this case, there ARE strong reasons for limiting conception. But, that should NOT be the case

ad infinitum. Sexual interplay is NOT a recreational activity. It HAS ITS PURPOSE. MAN LIKES TO "HAVE HIS CAKE, AND EAT IT TOO. Plain Human Nature at work. This was not the governing concept as created.

Now, I am NOT a churchman, but I DO study Biblical, Military, and secular HISTORY.

Thus, I DO SAY the Mr. Obama IS trying to have government be THE absolute CONTROLLER of American mores, and morals. That is an IMPOSSIBILITY. Even the Queen Of England wisely side-stepped a question on the morality of birth control. Her reply was seconded to the Archbishop of Canterbury. No reply as of yet.

Therefore, DO CHERISH religious management of corporations that do charitable work. DO respect their tenants. But, if so ardent on this quest, then have Mr. Obama seek another way OUTSIDE of confines of such church-founded social betterment organizations.

Any alteration of the First Amendment, as it now stands, automatically makes the state supreme in religious doctrine. In case you need examples; the Thirty Years War, the English Civil War, haven't solved anything. Merely made such issues dormant for centuries. On the other hand, religious zealotry(man-driven) has created monstrous human suffering.

Your choice, enjoy the FREEDOM TO MAKE such a choice. May not be available in the near future.

Just to buttress to my presentation, check this out as well:

http://www.examiner.com/small-business-management- and this: http://www.sodahead.com/fun/catholics-have-to-give

Perhaps a bit more discriminating examination is deemed necessary by the Electorate??? It DOES MEAN, DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! DO become INFORMED. It takes time, and some dedication. But, come November, BE more educated, and cast YOUR PRECIOUS VOTE in a far more logical manner based upon being INFORMED, as well as what you perceive as good, or bad.

As critical as the year 2010 was, 2012 will be even more so. Does the country need four more years of Obama-type governance? Or do we want our Congress to be less doctrinaire and more dedicated to the betterment of the Commonwealth that to their pocketbooks?

Incidentally, I am NOT pleased with the Dems OR, the GOP. Both are focused on letting the rich get richer, and the powerful more powerful at the expense of the populace at-large. The only difference is how its done.

The GOP is the party of the rich, and super rich. That means everybody else pays BUT, the rich and privileged. The Dems like to do it by expanding government, and that means raising taxes, but the rich have already sequestered their money off shore. Guess who pays.

Come November, 2012, YOUR CHOICE!! Vote well, mon amis.

Hi, ImKarn 23:

Regards your presentation, I DO laud the emotion displayed, BUT, as I see it, misplaced due to sensationalism through the Fourth Estate. Ardent, yes, populist, yes, but NOT well grounded in supporting info.

Thank you for review, and yes, such lengthy compositions are a trait, and failing, of mine. This, due to my need to validate my position, and make as unassailable as possible through facts. Per Jack Webb(the FICTICIOUS "Joe Friday;" there WAS a REAL ONE, too); "Just the facts ma'am, just the facts." Trademark "Dragnet."

What Nancy Pelosi didn't want us to know until after the healthcare bill was passed. Remember she said, "pass it and then read it!!." Here it is! ______________________________

Obama Care Highlighted by Page Number

THE CARE BILL HB 3200

JUDGE KITHIL IS THE 2ND OFFICIAL WHO HAS OUTLINED THESE PARTS OF THE CARE BILL.

Judge Kithil of Marble Falls, TX - highlighted the most egregious pages of HB3200

Please read this........ Especially the reference to pages 58 & 59

JUDGE KITHIL wrote:

** Page 50/section:152: The bill will provide insurance to all non-U.S. Residents, even if they are here illegally.

** Page 58 and 59: The government will have real-time access to an individual's bank account and will have the authority to make electronic fund transfers from those accounts.

** Page 65/Section164: The plan will be subsidized (by the government) for all union members, union retirees and for community organizations (such as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now - ACORN).

** Page 203/line 14-15: The tax imposed under this section will not be treated as a tax. (How could anybody in their right mind come up with that?)

** Page 241 and 253: Doctors will all be paid the same regardless of specialty, and the government will set all doctors' fees.

** Page 272:Section 1145: Cancer hospital will ration care according to the patient's age.

** Page 317 and 321: The government will impose a prohibition on hospital expansion; however, communities may petition for an exception.

** Page 425, line 4-12: The government mandates advance-care planning consultations. Those on Social Security will be required to attend an "end-of-life planning" seminar every five years. (Death counseling..)

** Page 429, line 13-25: The government will specify which doctors can write an end-of-life order.

HAD ENOUGH???? Judge Kithil then goes on to identify:

"Finally, it is specifically stated that this bill will not apply to members of Congress. Members of Congress are already exempt from the Social Security system, and have a well-funded private plan that covers their retirement needs. If they were on our Social Security plan, I believe they would find a very quick 'fix' to make the plan financially sound for their future."

- Honorable David Kithil of Marble Falls , Texas

All of the above should give you the ammo you need to support your opposition to Obamacare. Please send this information on to all of your email contacts.

Contained in this analysis are three FOREIGN-BASED points:

Pages 241, and 253, are Canadian in origin. I am sure Ms. Robison will verify my point in terms of limiting talented Docs, who opt for "South of the Border..." Yes, I DO employ song titles when appropriate.

Page 272:Section 1145 , is Swedish. The older one gets the more medical care is "encumbered" as to TIMELY delivery. Lavished on the younger set, and young parents.

Pages 425, and 429: Dutch ---- SPECIFICALLY, EUTHANASIA. This is a particularly complex matter; best left for another time, and day. But safe to say this:

If rich, and have substantial medical problems, what IS the price for a medico to become "co-operative?" Think greedy heirs. Who will upright enough to administer your last will and testament as recorded?

If I WERE rich, and elderly, and this was the Law, I'd be quaking in my boots, a/o made arrangements for my assets to be distributed before I croaked. Are lawyers trustworthy?

Thus, I DO support your contentions that women DO, and SHOULD, have rights as to reproduction. The Government does NOT BELONG this far into private lives.

However, Sen. McConnell IS being political, this IS a PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION YEAR, and by hook or crook which most pols END up ASS & AS, he is "Making hay while the sun DOTH SHINE." He is using this issue to gain advantages for his party's supporters, Big Pharma, and big insurance companies, et al.

And yes it IS what it is. A SHAM of political proposal that has massive opposition for MANY REASONS, but is couched in phraseology that has the lure of the "Siren" of Homer fame:

China has long had experience with human physical suffering, and has been quite far ahead of western medicine in this area of healing. So far, the West has only lineaments, and heating pads. The Chinese have needles, but in the hands of a skilled practitioner, quite effective.

FyrFytr234:

I don't think I would be a good originator. I tend to be more of a student of life; a/o an observer. My style is guided by facts, as I find them.

Yes, I COULD be that lonely one that is out in the peanut gallery, yelling "Hurray for our side!" But to what effect? I have found that approach has little reward of any description. Not even the emotional gratification of "I did it!!"

Being fact-based, lets me achieve at least SOME degree of credibility; knowing that I have SOME relevancy to the subject.

Is Salt good for you? Depends. Table salt is very bad if over-used. Why? It is refined ROCK Salt; a mineral found in many places in the USA. This is the same salt we use to salt our roads, walks, and driveways. Note the white powder residue. Has more negative assets.

Sea Salt is much better. It has the right amount of other minerals we need, plus some of the trace minerals we MUST have. Seal salt contains all known minerals. Result is less usage over time, nutritionally better. Even better for the ground after ten years. Hence, MY CHOICE to purchase.

========================================================================================================================

Ms. B:

I am not attempting a hi-jack. I am merely responding in a logical, and factual manner regards this issue. That being, that the "Prez" is NOT without fault.

The views of ImKarn23 have VALUE. But, still it is MY OPINION that she didn't back these presentations with facts, and factoids. I DO feel women should have the "majority say" in reproduction matters. If the relationship is to be long-term, then prior agreement is required ---- for the CORRECT REASON(s?). I do NOT hold with the Hitlerite view that unmarried girls are to be offered as sexual play things for the SS troops.

As to birth control, there ARE valid reasons to allow it. To indiscriminately have children is not what is desired. But, with strong passions involved, use birth control for that period of time, of NOT wanting kids; but DO set a time to have kids, if possible. I happen to know of a couple that had six kids because they felt their religion demanded it of them. FINE, IF YOU CAN SUPPORT THEM. If not, then have what your paycheck will allow.

Point is, I DO feel that Ms. ImKarn23 has valid opinions. She is more strident than I, so be it. But DO let the opposing view be presented and supported by facts. In this case the Election of 2012, and all it effects.

Folks:

Let us agree that YES, the GOP point man has to LOOK quite the part of being a MORON . This is, in part, required of the party leadership in the Senate, a/o House.

Let me also state that I do NOT hold favour with letting the rich escape scot free. This is NO LONGER an agrarian society, but an INDUSTRIALIZED civilization. The old traits of just sucking it up and moving on are lost, as we do NOT have the main ingredients of the past. "Rugged Individualism," and the encapsulating "no body gonna do it, but YOU" mantra. This IS evidenced by the election of Franklin Roosevelt, as against the continuance of Herbert Hoover as President, 1932.

I am unsure if you folks read my previous postings, but I have shown that the programme championed by Barack Obama, is very flawed, and very DICTATORIAL. Make no mistake, he will FINE an employer for not providing, A/O the citizen for NOT ACQUIRING said health insurance. That WAS part of his pre-election programme in his quest TO BECOME President.

The attempt to force religious-founded / managed / run, social betterment functions to make birth control pills available to its women employees is merely ONE foray. It IS a "FIRE FOR EFFECT" / "TEST THE WATERS" attempt. Barack IS testing the BOUNDARIES. This is directed AT BOTH, "The Constitution," and the CITIZENRY.

The rationale is to sound out the questions of whether the voters are willing to allow "nibbling away" at constitutional freedoms? This IS quite evident in the attempt of forced compliance by religious-backed social betterment agencies that have tenants in OPPOSITION to this goal. I have stated that Mr. Obama COULD have been further along by allowing the women to take the purchase of such medications off their Income Taxes.

But, the NOTORIETY attached to this attack WOULD be missing by a quieter approach; but attacked from the aspect of increasing the deficit.

Btaim, for the USER, the point is an INDIVIDUAL CHOICE under both scenarios.

A CHURCH should NOT have to be FORCED BY GOVERNMENT to violate any of its tenants for a POLITICAL GOAL.

The sources I used are quite sufficient for validation for my statements.

I AM surprised that "PhillyDreamer," didn't cite the source, as to the Judge's comment regarding the CONGRESSIONAL MEDICAL PLAN???? It is merely ONE of the EXEMPTIONS Congress has granted ITSELF to BE PROTECTED from CITIZEN law suits. One such stipulation is the FOIA(Freedom Of Information Act ---www.quora.com/U-S-Congress-2/What-are-the-special-deals-in-or-exemptions-from-law-that-Congress-has-given-itself . Congress DOES NOT have to regard it.

As to the Obama medical plan, this from the above cited source: "Rather than listing "many" exemptions, Fund pointed only to page 114. That section

stated that individuals who buy their own insurance and small firms (size

to be determined) would be eligible to participate in state-based

exchanges, which would offer a range of health insurance plans for

purchase. Those who already get insurance through Medicare, Medicaid,

the military’s Tricare insurance program, or the Federal Employees Health

Benefits Program wouldn’t be eligible. All federal employees, including

members of Congress, fall under the FEHBP. Those who have coverage

from a large employer wouldn’t be eligible, either, unless their coverage

didn’t meet minimum benefits criteria or was deemed to be unaffordable."

Under Pcunix, whom I failed to cite on my post of two days, past, You can read that Congress is also exempt FROM Social Security. However, I have since discovered that essentially a stretched concept of exemption comes from this piece:

urbanlegends.about.com/od/government/a/proposed_28th_amendment.htm.

The decision to be included as federal employees in THEIR retirement system, as opposed to the regular variety.

A poster to this site has a point, one that can be traced back TO the FOUNDERS OF THE USA: www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/feb/1/exemptions-for-congress/.

But, Let me ask as to WHY there is no great vocal hounding Nancy Pelosi? In my post to ImKarn23, two days, past: What Nancy Pelosi didn't want us to know until after the healthcare bill was passed. Remember she said, "pass it and then read it!!." Is this NOT putting the cart BEFORE the HORSE????

A comment like this DOES invite this caption: What????!!!! PASS legislation, THEN READ IT??? Why BOTHER to READ what has been passed? For members of Congress, they are relatively EXEMPT ANYWAY!!! And , the voters are EXPECTED to TRUST "Nancy + Harry, &Company???" Please DON'T insult MY intelligence, or OTHER, inquiring minds(but do NOT read "The National Enquirer")that DO challenge the sanity of such proposed legislation. I am QUITE sure that there ARE many redeeming features of Health Care Reform. But, that is NOT for this "tribunal" to place in the docket, here. I just wish somebody would publish the VERY SHORT(but comprehensive) version OF this plan. ????

That said, the issue of Health Care reform IS contended by at least FIVE major groups. The one that SHOULD COUNT is purposely left in an info vacuum; it IS expected to accept the final version, unchallenged. It is also expected to be "thankful," and just PAY without whimper or attack upon ANY OTHER portion of the special group oligarchy. Can you NAME THEM????

All in all, folks, I ask that each one take a CRITICAL look at what is being attempted to pass as LEGALIZED INTIMIDATION of religious-run social betterment entities. I also ask that members of BOTH parties be given the same broad-stroking paint treatment, when called for; and Nancy Pelosi does qualify here too, folks. "...pass before reading," PLEASE!!! SOME RATIONAL intelligence at work(???)!!!!

And for further reading, these: www.snopes.com/politics/medical/28thamendment.asp, and

urbanlegends.about.com/od/government/a/proposed_28th_amendment.htm.

Cur Non, eh?

@pkallen5: LOL...they shouldn't hang 'em out there, if they don't want 'em busted..

Wow...what can I say after all these words posted, except another witty, wonderful article created by you!!! Have you thought about a political career?

Breen Bergstrome 3 months ago

Picadilly...ImKarn23 would make a dynamite politician, and one we could believe in. We know she fights to improve the status quo... by penning her wit, concern and knowledge.

Politics is a disease..politicians catch that disease and lose track of their souls..not trusted or admired. Much as I'd love to see her name on a ballot, she's probably wise staying out of that circus can more powerful attack the beast as a writer/commentator/advisor.

Politicians are like lawyers...no one likes or admires them for long.

@Picadilly: I thought you liked me dear! LOL. Just teasing! I would make a very bad politician - I'm honest! Lol

@BreenBergstrome: Agree 100%! The difference is - i wouldn't lose my soul - i'd lose my mind! (ps..who is stalking your daughter? can't we all just...put an end to it?)

ImKarn23, I bow to your crazy, fantastic voice: courageous, strong and correct.

As for the other, done deal. I had my day in Discoveries but since I stepped over Question page protocol and wrote another thought, the hub was removed. Healthier for me and others in the long run..actually I hate debates..they grow on differences, that being the driving life of them......I didn't mind it at College when I was younger and an activist and could talk till the cows came home...now I'm older and getting tired of debate for the sake of debate.

Thanks for asking.

I would rather read what you have to say.

@BreenBergstrome: I understand how you feel. I have no stomach for confrontation anymore - unless absolutely necessary, of course! We have to pick our fights and keep our health! Smart girl!

Goodness! I swear, these politicians get ballsier by the second. I am indeed scared now! Sadly, it seems the people working FOR us are working more against us than anything else these days. How quickly the tables might turn if someone they love were to- dare I say it- come up with an illness that is against their "moral" compass. Karma! lol Nice piece!

The Speaker of the House also cares about his tan and his golf game. I had better stop there or I'll cry about it. They said Obamacare had death squads? Hello...the only death squads going on are the ones perpetrated by the wax figured face of the likes of Mitch McConnell.

Very nice article, but I'm sure the corporations will do what's best for their employees. HA! Even typing that makes me cringe! But I do disagree with one statement: "What's Most Frightening is These People Expect to Win Votes!". I think THIS is the most frightening thing: These people WILL win votes from the very same people who will lose coverage because they think only other people's immoral habits are at risk. Voted up and interesting. Thanks for the great read.
